This problem is not really a pkgsrc problem. It would be much more
productive to report the problem to the original author of Snownews,
 at http://kiza.kcore.de/software/snownews/
He knows his software much better than i do, and will be happy to get
 such improvement suggestion.
Do not hesitate to mention the original bug report
 http://www.netbsd.org/cgi-bin/query-pr-single.pl?number=31927
to Kiza, and keep us informed on the way this was fixed upstream. I
would be happy to integrate a patch for this issue, once it is fixed
 in Snownews

 Best regards,
 antoine
