The www/w3m package does not understand pages sent with the
`application/xhtml+xml` mime-type. Several parties have already
submitted patches to the W3m authors (see the patchtracker on their
SourceForge page), but it looks like the W3m developers are on a (very
long?) holiday ;-)

Build www/w3m from pkgsrc and visit a website that sends back the
application/xhtml+xml mime-type, for example:
