 Indeed, I had cairo-1.0.0 installed!
 I've just grabbed version 1.0.2 of cairo from CVS; the build in pkgsrc 
 fails in the `test' directory, but works when building outside of the 
 pkgsrc environement; then pango-1.10.1 configures correctly.
