bmake in pkgsrc won't stop tasks when you press CTRL-C.
Maybe the shell prompt will come back.
But its sub-jobs continue to run and have to be killed manually with
kill.

I have noticed this several times on Linux.
And I was reminded about this when reading:

As for me I never did this at /usr/pkgsrc, but my problem is in
just a normal category/package directory.
