 update:
 
 mpage would not build when called as part of make install foomatic- 
 filters.  As indicated in the detailed listing provided in the send- 
 pr message.
 
 however, after several tries and multiple make cleans,  mpage DID  
 build when installed on its own.
 
 foomatic-filters then found the installed mpage and build/installed  
 normally.
