 This problem still exists (with 2.0.2).
 
 Additionally, invoking gnome-terminal messes up the xterm from which it
 is invoked: it changes the number of lines (stty rows) and turns off
 echo. This is quite useless. The window that is created doesn't even
 show a menu bar, just a flashing cursor.
