I don't know why you are using gdm 2.2; this is a really old version (the
update in pkgsrc happened back in 2001).  Current pkgsrc is at 2.6.0.9 and
I'll update it to 2.8.0.0 in a minute.

To the point of your PR: the issue you mention was mentioned a while ago, too.
