 Building comms/minicom on MacOS X 10.4.1 with Apple's GCC 3.3 compiler
 (Xcode Tools 2.0) exhibits the identical behavior as described in this PR.
 
 pkg/29026 does not apply since the initial behavior described there does
 not occur.
 
 Workarounds and subsequent behavior have not yet been investigated.
 
 Building comms/minicom with Apple's GCC 4.0 compiler fails for unrelated
 reasons which may warrant an entirely separate PR.
