 My workaround from last December for Solaris was
 
 -CONFIGURE_ARGS+=       LFLAGS_SHLIB=-shared
 +CONFIGURE_ARGS+=       LFLAGS_SHLIB="-shared -mimpure-text"
 
 This is a Solaris only gcc option. I don't know if it is for other
 compilers.
