 libbind doesn't appear in stable FreeBSD release (5.3).
 
 The resolver library is in libc I believe.
 
 Instead of using SUBST_, I added:
 USE_BUILDLINK3= YES
 and in your FreeBSD condition, I just did:
 BUILDLINK_TRANSFORM+=	rm:-lresolv
 
 That worked for FreeBSD 5.3.
 
 Can you check on your FreeBSD-current?
