 So I guess a couple things need to be decided: (a) where is the
 right place to make the fix and (b) what the fix should be.
 
 My 2 cents:
 
 a) patching unix/configure is the way to go because configure
     shouldn't assume the compiler is not GCC.
 
 b) I'm not sure... Is patching it as shown above OK? Or should
     there be an if/else checking to see which compiler is being used?
