what version of the perl58 package do you have installed on the build
systems and the binary pkg systems?

All the same, 5.8.5. (perl-5.8.5nb5) That gets built on the 'main
machine' as well.

okay, was p5-DBI built with this version of perl? what is the perl
dependency listed in the output of "pkg_info -v p5-DBI" on the different
systems?

I went ahead with the solution you hinted at and I rebuilt all my p5-*
packages on the "build machine" so I don't think I'll be able to provide
any more feedback on this. I think you're right, though. I went from
perl to perl-threaded and then back to perl doing forced installs at
times, so it was all kind of messed up.
