When I type the below command to install mplayer from pkgsrc I get this error message. NOTE: I am using xorg from pkgsrc but I do no think it makes a difference. mplayer-share installs but gmplayer and mplayer fails with the same error.
$ make install clean

Variable BUILDLINK_PACKAGES is recursive.
make: stopped in /usr/pkgsrc/multimedia/mplayer
${MAKE_PRINT_VAR_ON_ERROR:@v@$v='${$v}'
