Manual extraction of problem:
vrak(petter): cd work/php-4.3.4/ext/
vrak(petter): gpatch <../../../patches/patch-aa
can't find file to patch at input line 5
Perhaps you should have used the -p or --strip option?

manually applying patches with solaris /usr/bin/patch works.
Haven't investigated further, but I guess this could be a hint at least.
