I run e17 with xcompmgr; that's how the previous version of .xinitrc
was setup (with Xmetisse). I have no idea if this actually makes any
difference for e17, though.

Fairly typical  - I had some times ago problem with clisp and built it
on a virtual machine; it brought some 15 packages...

A depends on Bi(i in 1..k); Bi depends on Cij(j in 1..m), Cij depends
on Dijl(l in 1..p)... you get it.
