Typo. End that option with "f" for filename not "h".

tar -cvzf pgdata.tar.gz pgdata

> tar: Failed open to write on /dev/nrst0 (Device not configured)
> tar: Unexpected EOF on archive file

Without "f" it assumes to use tape device instead of archive file.
