   Just curious -- what does "rc" stand for (assuming it's just not
randomly chosen letters, which I doubt) in the context /etc/rc*?

   And I've read several theories about what "etc" is supposed to mean.
Anyone who can point to an trustworthy source on what the etymology
behind it is?
