I thought it was, but it's been a while.  I do remember partitioning a
Compaq laptop to set aside space for the suspend, which was probably
performed by the firmware at NetBSD's request.

Suspend-to-RAM seems to be more fassionable these days, probably
because of a faster "wake up" time. I can see that there will be cases
where suspend-to-disk is preferable.
