I just realized there was an error in my configuration which exposes a 
bug in slapd.

I call slapd with the following argument:

-h 'ldap://127.0.0.1 ldaps://<externel ip>'

and on my staging server there is no interface with that external ip.

I'll guess I should forward this to the OpenLDAP team.
