Hum... 4.0 beta... rebuilding kernels... Ouch. :)

Seems that, in the interim, APC is sending me a free RS232 cable... 
Let's see what I can do with that without having to deviate from my 
good, trusty 3.1 GENERIC kernel... if that's not enough, then I'll think 
rebuilding a kernel. :)
