I like the slightly older rackmount APC units that use a serial port to
communicate with the host, not USB. I get them from RefurbUPS -- they
are local to me so I save on shipping, but in my experience they are also
nice guys who stand by their product. They have a web site at
http://www.refurbups.com/ which seems to list most (but not all) of what
they have in stock.
I used to use apcupsd but I am growing to like nut somewhat better. If
you're going to use a networked UPS be sure to put it on its own network
segment -- I don't trust the UPS firmware *or* any of the host software
for it at all.
