Depending on the kind of encryption you are looking for, at least
looking at the NetBSD sources:

/usr/src/lib/libcrypt*

is a possible solution. Since libgcrypt is an extract from gnupg---and
not a dedicated project---, the possible lacks in documentation
are not really surprising. =20
