Thanks, what I ended up with was...

   ! /sbin/slattach -h -s 115200 /dev/tty00
   inet 192.168.0.128 192.168.0.129 up

    ...and it's working well.  SLIP is something that I have
wanted to learn for a long time and it will be very helpful
for some projects that I have in mind.
