I find further clues via google that this might work on some system,
though some other pages suggest that one can't start the Xserver from
within xdm if one wants this to work, so now I'm even more confused.
There's are also yet other (hopefully bogus) hints suggesting that
"localhost" won't work and either the public interface or hostname
resolving to that interface must be used.

Hmm.... on further testing it seems the problem is that xdm doesn't pass
the "BROADCAST" parameter on the chooser's command-line when given the
following entry in the xdm/Xaccess file:

	*	CHOOSER BROADCAST

If I start the chooser program manually with BROADCAST on the
command-line then I see the expected list of hosts.  So, where does the
silly word "list" come from?  It must come from the code because it
certainly doesn't come from my Xaccess file.
