It does seem to be relatively common for people to install ncurses  
and terminfo rather than using the Sun-supplied termcap, true.   
However, even if you staticly link a binary against ncurses, you  
still end up with a dependency upon the terminfo files, so such  
binaries are not as self-contained as one might wish...
