I feel the same way.
As Geert already answered, emacs mode is off for the su shell. If you =20
login as root, /root/.profile is read, which sets ENV=3D/root/.shrc which =20
in turn contains set -o emacs. If you want that after su'ing too, use =20
'su -' or 'su -l' or 'set -e'.
