Hi,

during my sysadmin work as at a German university, a regular issue
when I introduce new users to computer pracs and labs is how to
handle removable media. We use an amd(8) based scheme, which works
nicely and transparently for network mounts, but unfortunately
requires a lot of explaining and hand-holding for removable media.
There is often an unspoken "But on Windows, I just..." in the air.

A recent news item on German "Heise Newsticker"
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/73077 hints at the following
article which, among others, discusses handling of removable media on
future FreeBSD releases:

<snip

The main focus of developers is to integrate FreeBSD with the GNOME
and KDE desktop environments, and to add plug-and-play hardware
capabilities.

"Developers are doing work so you can plug in a USB stick and have it
appear on the desktop and just work, without having to mess around
with command prompts and work out arcane commands," said Long.
</snip>

Is there any related development on NetBSD that I missed (any SoC
activities?), or do we generally not care enough for the odd Desktop
User to bother?
