Well, lets look at Xorg on Solaris 10 x86 1/06.

After using xorgconfig to set up the config file for chip and monitor, it
does load the RADEON driver. But doesn't like the monitor.

(==) RADEON(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
(II) RADEON(0): Validating modes on Primary head ---------
(II) RADEON(0): Monitor0: Using default hsync range of 28.00-33.00 kHz
(II) RADEON(0): Monitor0: Using default vrefresh range of 43.00-72.00 Hz

However, the monitor, DiamondPoint SB70 states in the manufacturers docs:

Sync range:

Horizontal	30 - 70 khz
Vertical	50 - 120 khz

Xorg claims that hsync for 1280x1024 (and a lot of others) is out of
range. XFree86 on NetBSD/amd64 3.0 claimed the same thing.

With Xfree86 4.2.0 and a ATI Technologies Rage Fury MAXX AGP 4x, it runs at
1280x1024 in 24 bit depth mode.
