It seems that manufacturers don't list resolution versus frequency for their
cards anymore. There is no easy way to find a card/monitor pair that will
do a specific resolution - in this case 1280x1024.
I have a ATI RADEON 9200 PCI video card in an amd64 box. It wouldn't do
1280x1024 in either NetBSD amd64 or Solaris 10 x86. I don't have the
log file from NetBSD, but looking at the logfile from Solaris it seems to
not recognize the RADEON 9200 because it is not an AGP card. It runs through
a lot of resolutions and rejects the for "hsync out of range". Which hsync,
card or monitor?
It was easier in the old days, just doing the X config file by hand.
Something is awfully broken with X or the the hardware.
