I guess what I'm really wondering about is why does an ATI Rage MAXX have no
problem with 1280x1024 on a NEC and a DiamondPoint CRT monitor that are both
rated for 1280x1024, while a newer Radeon card just won't. It is Xfree86 and
Xorg that are saying, in the log file, that both of those monitors don't
have a high enough horizontal frequency for 1280x1024.
The ATI Rage MAXX is on a system running NetBSD 1.6.1 and Xfree 4.2.0. I have
used both CRT monitors without a problem on that machine at 1280x1024, as well
as the current monitor, a Sony SDM-S75, at the same resolution. I bought the
DiamondPoint CRT less than a year ago.
Is this an Xfree/Xorg software problem or a hardware problem?
