I read "tivo" here as a more general term. We don't (as far as I know)
have TiVo service available here, but still I have a small gadget at
home that receives dvb via satellite, records on hard disk and allows
me to fetch the recorded files via usb 2.

It is small, easy to use for the rest of the family, quiet and was realy
cheap compared to any MythTV alternatives I could think of.

It is missing all the bells and wistles, of course, and I can't ssh to it
and add cronjobs. My coworker runs MythTV on Linux, and I hear him swear,
fetch newer versions, complain, get angry calls from his wife when he
works late and her favorite program isn't recorded etc.

I admit my desicion was uncool, ungeeky, cheap, and lazy. I would do it
again, any time.
