I had the same problem (I still have) but I found out, that
it only happens the second and subsequent times I start X.
The first time after booting, X starts up and works ok.

I'm also interested in a solution to this. 

Ah, btw. it also isn't possible to switch to textmode by 
pressing <ctrl>+<alt>+<f1> and back to graphics mode by 
pressing <ctrl>+<alt>+<f5>.
I get a black screen with a square cursor blinking in
the topleft corner and the machine is frozen.
