Hi,
OK, I admit that I'm a little behind the times on this front,
but, nevertheless, here I am. I want to set up a media server
using NetBSD and stream to my stereo (and ideally TV, though
that's less important) wirelessly -- something akin to what Mac
does with AirTunes. I asked my sysadmin at the office about it,
and he said, "No problem, I do it at home, what you have to get is
a UPnP device. I've got this software which I run under Linux
and works great". At which point he started searching on-line
for his favorite Linux software and I walked away, assuming that
"UPnP" was all I needed to know and I could go find something
under pkgsrc.
Well, I can't find anything under pkgsrc, and, in fact, searching
the mailing lists and netbsd.org doesn't turn up anything
particularly insightful under UPnP. I even tried searching for
"plug play mediaserver", and got nothing.
So, unbelieving that no one has done this in NetBSD, I've come to
the conclusion that I must be searching for the wrong thing. The
questions, then, are
1) What sort of device do I need to get, which is
preferrably small (I'm not looking for a stereo
component, and certainly not for a PC), supports
802.11, has the appropriate ports to connect to (at
least) a stereo and ideally to video, and to which I
can stream such data?
2) For what should I be searching in pkgsrc to stream to
whatever the answer to question #1 is?
Thanks!
Chris
