Note that FreeBSD's isp(4) driver supports these types of controllers.

I have a bunch of them myself and was always planning to either try the
port, or at least give a couple cards to someone who could promise to do
it in some reasonable time.

At this point I definitely don't have any "free" time to do the port
myself.

I think having support for these controllers in NetBSD would be very
nice, especially since the older varieties of them appear to be quite
common and are often available quite inexpensively.  Apparently they
work reasonably well too.
