hello-
I am new to netbsd world and have finally decided to check out it after
reading an article about database and OS performance. I believe the
article was called, "Using MySQL to benchmark OS performance". The
article lead me to believe that netbsd was a pretty good OS to use to
run a database on. Doing more exploring I read opinions that PostgreSQL
was a better performing RDB. So, I am thinking about checking this
combination out. Does anyone have any insight into this? Would I be
doing the right thing?
I have been running Mysql 4.1 and FreeBSD 5.3 on i386. I am also
interested in finding out if there is a more powerful port/hardware
combination to run said database on? eg. amd64/single or dual proc? The
reason I say this, and I am not trolling here, is that article that I
read found that the SMP in NetBSD did not perform as well as the others
in the test. Should I stay with single proc? What experiences have
others found?
I have been tasked with coming up with a design for a new db server for
a project. I am looking to make a decision very soon for the powers
that be, so I am interested in hearing both positive and negative exp.
with NetBSD running either PostgreSQL or MySQL.
TiA,
Bob
