This is using the xorg server in an otherwise base system X11R6 based world 
right?  I have approx 80 machines with x300's in that setup.  For VT 
switching and the XKB stuff to work you need the stuff 
in /usr/pkg/xorg/lib/X11/xkb/... which is part of the xorg-clients package.
