I have used /mnt for a temporary mount point for years.

Recently I stumbled over "/srv" on a system. When I looked for the
source of this I found:

So far, I had supposed the FHS as being a solution to a Linux-problem but
thinking about the rationale above, it doesn't look so bad to me
anymore.
