Just to answer this, I tried it once, and was disappointed by the
result -- as I recall it ended up compiling several packages more
than once.

It's possible that I didn't know how to properly use pkg_chk; at
least pkgdepgraph has cut/pasteable examples in the manual page,
and the pkgdepgraph avoids the above problem entirely.
