Hmmmmmmmmmm..
After you specify the ModeLine, it should (at least it used to) break
if it didn't support the one you were using and would give a little
note about it.  I didn't see 85 in your log snippet, so maybe you
should try the 95?

Also, this sounds dumb, but make sure you're updating the correct
XF86Config file.  I think this is specified at the beginning on your
log.

Other than that, I'm pretty much grasping at straws.
