Just for kicks, I dropped out of X to the console, and have
confirmed that the console (my shell is /bin/ksh, and I stty
erase undef, just to make sure the terminal wasn't doing anything
funny), and the BACKSPACE and DELETE keys on my keyboard clearly
issue different codes (I didn't bother figuring out exactly what
DELETE is issuing, but it's ^? on the display, and BACKSPACE is
^H).
So, this appears to definitely not be a problem in 2.0.2 (unless,
as Richard pointed out in his last post, we're misunderstanding
something).
Cheers,
Chris
