From what I gathered from Google, "foo_pod" is a plugin for some
Windows music software called "Foobar2000" (never heard about it).

My iPod Shuffle arrived today and I've done some rudimentary tests on
Free- and NetBSD.

Both can mount the iPod without any problems, using msdos filesystem
(netbsd-2-0 stable branch). I haven't seen the error that Andrew observed.

That said, the iPod uses a couple directories and files that are
probably meant to be opaque and used only by iTunes:

# ls /ipod/iPod_Control
Music/ iTunes/

with various subdirectories.

I haven't found anything in pkgsrc to access these in the proper way but
in the FreeBSD ports there's something called "GtkPod" which I'll now
evaluate and see if it also works with the Shuffle. If it works, it's
most likely not much of an effort to (have someone) port it to pkgsrc.

mkb.

P.S.: the Shuffle is a really cute device ;)
