I own a simple Hauppauge TV Card and use mplayer to watch TV, I also
ripped a stream from an old analog Camcorder with mencoder and that TV
Card into an AVI file, but I'm not a videoexpert, so I can't say anything
on encoding the stream to DivX or sth. like that, but mplayer/mencoder
might be a good starting point.
