Hello Newsgroup and a happy New Year !

I noticed following with tcpump.
If I use the traceroute program mtr, and look at the network stream, it
looks like this:

tcpdump:
11:58:16.107421 vigor.sst.net > beta.sst.net: icmp: time exceeded in-transit
[tos 0xc0]
11:58:16.256736 beta.sst.net > redirector.heise.de: icmp: echo request
11:58:16.272756 hhb223ibr011.versatel.de > beta.sst.net: icmp: time exceeded
in-transit
11:58:16.416751 beta.sst.net > redirector.heise.de: icmp: echo request
11:58:16.440053 fra20ip6.versatel.de > beta.sst.net: icmp: time exceeded
in-transit
11:58:16.567058 beta.sst.net > redirector.heise.de: icmp: echo request
11:58:16.590841 de-cix2.ffm.plusline.net > beta.satori-stocktec.net: icmp:
time exceeded in-transit [tos 0xc0]

I get the error "time exceeded in-transit".
But if I normally ping (without mtr) the same host (heise.de), the message
disappears.

Anybody knows what the error means?

Regards, Zafer.
