netbsd-users: /usr/pkg/etc/rc.d

Does NetBSD automatically check for scripts in /usr/pkg/etc/rc.d and 
execute them if necessary? I'm guessing not. If not, why do use put 
install scripts there (ex. apache) instead of /etc/rc.d?
