The MGE (www.mgeups.us) UPS recommended earlier stll has USB and
serial both on some models.
www.exploits.org has links to a netbsd package that should to work
with MGE's SHUT protocol as well as many others (plus there are a lot
on pkgsrc). (It's just the homepage for the ups-nut NetBSD pkg).
Thanks all for all the tips; I've not had time yet to try fixing the
filesystem issues yet, but I did think about the UPS situation during
the day.
I think putting the exploit.org drivers on my OS X machine (which can
talk to my current USB model), broadcast the status from OS X (all
stuff should be ready to download and go) and then running just the
UPS network monitor on the Qube is the way to go.
That way the OS X machine will trigger on low battery, the Qube can
still shutdown, and I don't have to try and figure out what to do
with the console output (the Qube only has ONE serial port, which is
where console goes to by default- that could be bad to turn off :).
This is assuming that the netbsd package on exploit.org works (sounds
good anyway, and my current UPS is on there, as well as the MGE. I'm
thinking of getting a new MGE unit anyway; my current battery is
geting old).
The only down side is that is one more CPU that should be left on.
Thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate it.
Brian
