Apart from RAID 0 being quite inappropriate for a backup storage server,
two disks of a RAID set on one IDE channel are suboptimal.
Maybe you can get an additional PCI IDE controller and put one disk on
one channel.
PCI bus could then be the limiting factor of course, depending on the
speed of the disks/RAID set.
