That's basically correct. Outlook needs AUTH LOGIN, and in order to
transport passwords in an encrypted fashion, you pretty much need to
use TLS.
It's normally not difficult to setup, but the postfix management team
haven't been too enthusiastic about properly integrating SASL support;
so it turns into a can of worms.
