i tried to remount both partitions with softdeps.
copy SMALL->SMALL	same time
copy LARGE->LARGE	longer (95sec instead of 69sec)
copy SMALL->LARGE	longer (67sec instead of 56sec)
copy LARGE->SMALL	same time

i.e. softdeps make the situation even worse...

should i try to install new -current? where else could be problem? i
think disk drive and cable should be ok, since it is detected correctly
and works fine (but slowly...)
