I am no NetBSD expert but I remember a couple of years ago I tried to get my
3C509 card working under NetBSD 1.6. After trying a couple of months I gave
up, it just didn't work. I remember I just bought a new PCI card for 10?
which started working directly and saved me a lot of hazzle.

No solution perhaps, sorry

I already did that and the card doesn't show up twice in dmesg.
ep0 at isa0 port 0x300-0x30f irq 10: 3Com 3C509 Ethernet

I also tried a working crossover cable but the result is the same: link
negotiation and status ok, but no data transmittion.
