Lets put it differently:

NetBSD-current comes with very good threads based on "scheduler activations".
Those will be in the next major release, NetBSD 2.0, too.

The latest release branch, NetBSD 1.6.x, uses userland only threads, which
have to be installed from pkgsrc. Apparently the most popular pkg is
pkgsrc/devel/pth.
